STOCK TRACKER QUESTIONS?

A LITTLE GUIDE TO DECODING STOCK SYMBOLS

What Do The Symbols Mean?

The stock ticker symbol, is a unique combination of letters or numbers that represents a company's publicly traded shares - like a number plate on a car.

It is often based on the company name e.g Amazon is 'AMZN' and Mastercard is 'MA'. It allows investors to track its performance and easily recognise the company.

What Does The price Next to The Ticker Mean?

This is the price per share for the particular stock (the last price that the company traded at). These are usually in US Dollars, since most of the trades are on the US stock market.
If you were looking at something on the NZ stock exchange, this would be in NZD.

What Are The Percentages Next To The Ticker

This is the movement of the stock since the last trading day - commonly referred to as the 'change price'.

So, if something has gone up a little since yesterday, it will show a green percentage based on that increase.

For example, if the share price of Visa closed at $265 yesterday and then today it was trading at $270, it would have a green % figure of +1.89% next to it.

Is The Stock Tracker Live?

Yes! This is live, and pulls from the stock exchange so that you can get live insights (things change very quickly).
